Wesley Brito knows every spot around Boa Vista. The Waterman, who grew up in Cape Verde, met up with his Duotone team colleague Nia Suardiaz for a training session on his home island. The two of them focussed on wave foiling in different variations. Boa Vista provided powerful swell and wind during the session. The conditions were ideal for both wing foiling and surf foiling. Brito grew up by the sea and developed his skills in the local waters. "Growing up in Cape Verde means growing up in the ocean. Whether wing foiling or surf foiling - there is always a wave to surf and a new playground to discover," explains Wesley Brito.
The sessions with Nia Suardiaz were all about surfing. Suardiaz particularly appreciates the versatility of the spots around Boa Vista. The island offers sheltered bays for beginners and exposed reefs for advanced riders. "The combination of strong winds, perfect waves and warm water makes Boa Vista a special place. Riding with Wesley is always a bonus for me," emphasises Nia Suardiaz.
Boa Vista belongs to the eastern archipelago of Cape Verde and lies directly in the area of influence of the north-east trade wind. The island is flatter than the neighbouring islands to the west and therefore offers different wind conditions. Long sandy beaches alternate with rocky sections. For wing foilers, this creates different areas with different requirements. Brito utilises the variety of spots for his training in all disciplines. His experience also helps visitors to quickly find the right conditions.
