After a break of several years, the California Windsurf Cup is returning to Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. From 1 to 3 May, the official kick-off of the top German series will take place in the Baltic seaside resort of Kühlungsborn directly on the pier. The organisers are expecting up to 50 starters, who will compete in two disciplines as usual: Foiling and Fin Slalom. Parallel to the California Windsurf Cup, the athletes of the California Wingfoil Masters will also be competing for the first time. As part of the event, the legendary North One Hour will also be celebrating its comeback as a fun regatta for amateur surfers and professionals alike!
The combination of the Windsurf Cup and Wingfoil Masters marks an innovation in the German competition calendar. Both series use the same regatta course off the coast of Kühlungsborn. Marianna Just, Managing Director of Tourismus, Freizeit und Kultur GmbH Kühlungsborn, sees the event as a highlight of the year. "The event combines top-class sport with a fun experience and attracts national attention. At the same time, we put the Baltic Sea, the beach and our diverse water sports facilities in the town centre stage," explains Just. The town of Kühlungsborn actively supports the tour stop and provides the infrastructure around the pier.
Matthias Regber from Choppy Water GmbH is organising the season opener and is looking forward to the tour stop. "Kühlungsborn offers perfect conditions for top-class competitions. The combination of a top location, committed partners and an enthusiastic audience makes this season opener something special," says Regber. Choppy Water GmbH organises both the California Windsurf Cup and the California Wingfoil Masters and coordinates both events in parallel.
The concept emphasises short distances between spectators and athletes. The Seebrücken forecourt serves as a central event area from which the races can be followed directly. Visitors have access to athletes, equipment and side events.
