The new sport of wingsurfing is beginning to organise itself. The German Wing Foil Association (DWFV) has now been founded with the aim of promoting the water sports of wingfoiling, wingsurfing and surf foiling.

At regattas and events, the new association wants to ensure that the rules for wingfoilers are also made by wingfoilers and that the opportunities offered by the sport are fully utilised. The DWFV is also in close contact with the Global Wingsports Association (GWA), which organises international events. This is intended to prevent the risk of developments in wingfoiling being determined too much by class associations from the kitesurfing or windsurfing sector.

In line with this, the association is campaigning for wingfoiling to be recognised as an independent sport within the German Sailing Association (DSV) and to be represented by an independent wingfoil class association.

The DWFV regularly organises an exchange of information as well as training and education measures with its members. Membership of the DWFV is open to private individuals as well as wingfoil associations, clubs and companies. Together, they can promote the development of the sport.
