Seven wing foil events in three disciplines are on the calendar of the German Wing Foil Association for this year on the North and Baltic Seas. Championship titles and ranking points are at stake.

The German Wing Foil Association (DWFV e.V.) has presented a calendar with seven regattas for the new season. The national events are also stepping stones for international competitions organised by the Global Wingsports Association. The spectrum on the German tour includes the three disciplines of wave, freestyle and slalom. "The number and variety of this year's competitions reflect the dynamic nature of the new water sport and offer athletes the opportunity to demonstrate their skills in different areas and at different spots as well as in front of large audiences," writes the DWFV in its press release.

The dates for the German Wingfoil Tour 2024

  • 17 - 20. 05 Fehmarn Foil Festival & German Championship (Freestyle)
  • 23 - 26 May Sylt Wing Foil Masters (Wave / Slalom / Freestyle)
  • 28 - 30 June Kellenhusen Open German Championship (Slalom)

The German champions of the individual disciplines will be determined as part of the Open German Championships. The waveriding event takes place on Sylt as part of the California Wing Foil Masters, while the freestyle competitions are held on Fehmarn at the Foil Festival. The slalom takes place in Kellenhusen as part of the Winger of the Sea. The Wingfoil Circus also travels to Sylt from 23 to 26 May and celebrates its North Sea premiere with the wave, freestyle and slalom disciplines at the Summer Opening Sylt. In midsummer, the SUP & Wing Foil Festival returns to Fehmarn. In autumn, the Armstrong Foilwave in Klitmöller, Denmark, marks the end of the wave season, while the slalom and freestyle starters meet up at Steinhuder Meer.

The three Wing Foil disciplines in detail

  • Freestyle: Freestyle tricks are judged according to difficulty, height and execution. The control of the equipment during the manoeuvres, the flow, the overall impression and the variety of the manoeuvres shown are the main focus here.
  • Race/Slalom: The races are all about speed, strategy and precision. The participants have to complete a race course defined by buoys. The race course begins at the imaginary start line between a buoy and the start boat and ends at an imaginary finish line between the buoy and the finish boat.
  • Wave: Control and wave selection (wave height/wave length) are required when riding waves and swell. Particularly high scores are awarded for manoeuvres in the critical, breaking part of the wave. Flow and the versatility of the manoeuvres as well as the number of manoeuvres on the wave are also assessed.
