The shock of the early exit from the previous Wingfoil World Cup in Dakhla was short-lived for Titouan Galea. Less than two weeks later, at the event in Fortaleza, Galea had once again impressively confirmed his status as favourite and secured the World Championship title in this discipline with a superior victory in the Racing event before the final World Cup in Tarifa."I'm very happy that I was able to win here and now hope that I can also win the freestyle title at the end of the season in Tarifa"explained a visibly relaxed Galea in the winner's interview.
As in previous events, Galea gave his opponents no chance in Fortaleza and raced to victory after victory like clockwork. Galea even did a backflip on the last stroke in the face of certain victory - a bit of fun is a must!
Here are the highlights of the racing discipline:
On current form, there are many indications that Titouan Galea will also win the title in the freestyle discipline, as his victory in Fortaleza means that fifth place in Tarifa is now enough for the New Caledonian.
Dutch rider Bowien van der Linden has already secured the freestyle title, having already claimed her third victory of the season at the Wingfoil World Cup Fortaleza:"At the beginning of the year, I didn't believe I could compete for the title"says Van der Linden."I hope that this will motivate more women to take part, because the community on the tour is really great. Everyone helps each other and the competitions are just great fun."
This must not have been the last title for Van der Linden this season either. She is currently in a neck-and-neck race in the "Racing" discipline with Olivia Piana, who she had to concede victory to in Fortaleza. If Van der Linden wins the racing in Tarifa and Piana does not make it into the top four, Van der Linden would also take the second title in the Netherlands.
