GWA Wingfoil Worldcup Tarifa: Xavi Corr wins, Paula Novotna is world champion

Xavi Corr, the 15-year-old Tarifa local, won the GWA World Cup at his home spot and caused a big surprise. In the final, he faced Malo Guenole, who is also a newcomer at the age of 17. Both riders were evenly matched for long stretches of the final heat, with the lead changing hands after every move. Only at the end did Xavi Corr manage a frontside 720, while Guenole put three attempts in the water. "I'm so stoked to win here in Tarifa," said an overwhelmed Xavi Corr afterwards.

The duel between the generations that already on the second day of the GWA Wingfoil World Cup in Tarifa was already at its peak in the two semi-finals. The two young challengers defeated two of the absolute top riders, Camille Bouyer and Titouan Galea. These duels were also extremely exciting and were only decided with the last move.

The decision on the World Championship will therefore not be made until the last event in Brazil. Gollito Estredo is currently ahead of Balz Müller and Malo Guenole in the overall standings.

In the women's event, on the other hand, the decision was already made in Tarifa. Paula Novotna faced her closest rival Nia Suardiaz in the final - she is also only 15 years old, while Novotna can already look back on a long kitesurfing career. Novotna took the win, putting her in an unassailable lead in the world championship even before the final event. "It was a really tough battle with Nia," said the winner afterwards. "The level is rising so quickly, there are more women every time, which is great!"
