The responsible association, the World Ice and Snow Sailing Association (WISSA), is organising the Ice Sailing World Championships in collaboration with a local organising committee. On the frozen Lake Mälaren in Sweden, around an hour west of Stockholm, windsurfers, wingers and kiters will be competing from 16 to 21 February. According to the organisers, the World Championships will provide an important platform to showcase the sport and promote Olympic ambitions. There will be different classes for youth, adults and seniors.
Will Tuthill, President of WISSA, emphasises the importance of the event with great pathos: "Ice and snow surfing is more than a sport; it combines wind, winter and human creativity. The 2026 World Championships in Västerås will bring together the best of our global community, united by a common dream to give the sport the recognition it deserves."
Frank Krönert, chairman of the local organising committee, is delighted: "We are looking forward to welcoming the world to Västerås. This contest is made by athletes for athletes and we want to bring the sport to the people instead of bringing the people to the sport, which is easy in Västerås. Our team consists of athletes, volunteers and local partners, and we all work hard to organise a championship that is fair, fun and memorable. Supported by the city of Västerås, there will be accompanying events. Let us surprise you! Whether you take part in the races or cheer them on, we promise an experience full of Swedish charm and world-class competition!"
The local organising committee consists of internationally experienced athletes and is supported by the Swedish Skatesailing Association, the JKV Sailing Club, Visit Västerås and the Swedish Ice Sailing Association. Together they are committed to organising a championship that is fair, fun and full of energy.
