Los Roques is located around 80 kilometres from the coast of Venezuela and consists of over 300 small islands and sandbanks. "This is my heaven on earth, it's like you're dreaming!" enthuses Ricardo. "It's one of those places you have to visit at least once in your life!"
On the situation in crisis-ridden Venezuela, he says: "The situation has really been much better for a few years now, it's safe, there's been a big step forward in the economy, people's attitudes are different and we're really seeing progress in the country. Los Roques is and has always been one of the safest places I've ever been, and there's nothing to worry about!"
The archipelago is a paradise for wings and is protected by the outer reefs. "It's a perfect place for downwinders," enthuses Ricardo. Although there are some shallow spots, these are easy to recognise thanks to the clear water. There are also guides who can show you the best routes through the islets. You can windsurf on flat, choppy water and sometimes even in the waves if you're lucky. Kitesurfing is also part of the camp's programme.
Ricardo is organising the flights from Caracas, the pousadas on the small islands and the equipment for the camp from 21 to 28 November. Depending on the accommodation, prices range between 3,000 and 4,200 dollars per person in a double room. The package includes flights to the islands from Caracas, all meals, boat transfers and insurance as well as videos and pictures of the trip. Ricardo also offers to hire windsurfing equipment from him and gives lessons on site.
