For the first time, the GWA Indoor Wingfoil World Cup will take place together with boot Düsseldorf on the trade fair's XXL pool. On 18 and 19 January, riders from all over the world will compete against each other in individual time trials. In addition to the competition, the focus will of course also be on presenting the sport.
The contest on the 60 metre long pool is held as an individual time trial. To get onto the foils, the participants are pulled onto the wakeboard system in the hall. As soon as they release the bar at the start line, the stopwatch starts and the time trial begins. The course leads around two lane markers, which must be rounded with a jibe and a tack.
Many big names from the wingfoil scene are coming to Düsseldorf for the GWA Indoor World Cup: foil pioneer Balz Müller and the best German kiter Finn Flügel are already old friends on the XXL pool. Titouan Galea from New Caledonia, Gollito Estredo from Venezuela, Noah Flegel from the USA and Naumi Eychenne from Tahiti have also been announced. Other participants in the contest include the reigning world champions Francesco Cappuzzo and Riccardo Zorzi (Italy), Alan Fedit and Oscar Leclair from France, Ancor Sosa (Spain), who are all in the top ten of the world rankings. Benjamin May is the only one from Germany.
Tom Hartmann, Tour Manager of the GWA, is looking forward to the tour's stop in Düsseldorf: "The first Indoor World Cup to be held at boot Düsseldorf is an absolute highlight. There has never been anything like it before. We are really looking forward to bringing our tour to the trade fair for the first time and presenting the still young sport of wingfoil and our athletes to a wide audience. They will be closer to the public here than at any other event."
Petros Michelidakis, Director of boot Düsseldorf, says: "We are delighted to be organising the first Indoor Wingfoil World Cup and are excited to see how the specially developed competition format will be received at the trade fair. Because the wind is not very strong, the athletes have to show all their technical skills."
In addition to the GWA Indoor Wingfoil World Cup, boot 2025 will also host other world-class contests with international surf stars. The surf foilers will compete in Düsseldorf at the first tour stop of the "SFT Surf Foil World Tour - boot Düsseldorf 2025" (18/19 January 2025), while the windsurfers will take to the water at the "FPT Indoor Tow-In Freestyle - boot Düsseldorf 2025" (25/26 January 2025).
Wakeboarders will be competing for victory at the "Pooltastic Wakeboard Masters - boot Düsseldorf 2025" (24/25 January 2025). And the pros of the SUP and skimboard scene will also take to the water and show off their tricks at the "EuroTour SUP Indoor World Cup - boot Düsseldorf 2025" (25/26 January 2025) and the "European Skimboard Masters - boot Düsseldorf 2025" (19 January 2025).
