As was the case almost everywhere in the north, the ‘Racer and Winger of the Sea’ event in Holnis enjoyed plenty of wind and spectacular conditions over the weekend. Around 50 windsurfers and wingfoilers took part, with 1001grad Events organising the event in collaboration with the Flensburg Surf Club and Wassersport Holnis. As early as Saturday, almost non-stop rain put the athletes through their paces. On Saturday, the wind was changeable, but the rain was constant; on Sunday, sunshine and rain showers alternated, whilst gusts of up to 34 knots swept across the Flensburg Fjord. In total, ten races were held across the various competition categories.
The organisers were particularly delighted by the large number of young people who took to the water in Holnis. From young up-and-comers to experienced racers, participants of different ages and ability levels took to the water together. The focus was on the shared regatta experience as much as on the sporting results.
In the Racer of the Sea, Tim Wunderlich came out on top in the Finn class. Tjorve Studt finished in second place, with Oliver Schott completing the podium. Tjark Henkensiefken won the windsurfing foil class. Michal Gerowski took second place, whilst Julian Rulff came third. In the Winger of the Sea, Nils Knötig secured overall victory. Felix Neuling took second place, with Rune Treumer following in third. Young talent Florentine Weise won both the women’s and the U19 wingfoil class. Almut Achenbach won the women’s windsurfing category. Jesper Mo Thomsen came out on top in the U19 category. Alexander Achenbach won the rookie category.
The organisers would like to extend special thanks to the Flensburg Surf Club, Wassersport Holnis and all the helpers both on the water and on land. The event’s sponsors and partners made it possible for the numerous races to take place safely under these conditions. Without their commitment, the event would not have been possible. The weekend in Holnis marked the end of an intense regatta for the Racer and Winger of the Sea competitors.
