Shreditate balance boards - surfing in the living room
Balance boards have long since proved their worth as simple training equipment for coordination, strength and injury prevention. Felix Aschengschwandtner offers three different boards from Shreditate - all handmade in Austria.

Balance boards have long since proved their worth as training equipment for strength, coordination and injury prevention or rehabilitation. Austrian Felix Aschengschwandtner manufactures three models by hand from fine woods. We asked him who the Shreditate models are suitable for.

Felix, what's the story behind the brand name "Shreditate"?

I came up with the name on a snowy day on the chairlift. For me personally, board sports - whether skating, surfing or snowboarding - have always been my way of clearing my head, an escape from everyday life and into freedom. There's something meditative about being out there, enjoying the peace and quiet. Shreditate balance boards are an attempt to make this meditative feeling accessible on a daily basis, regardless of location. True to the motto: "Can't get to your shred? Then bring the shred into your living room!"

What products do you currently offer and how do they differ in terms of the target group?

I currently offer three different shapes. There is also a selection of two different sized cork wheels and a ball made from organic rubber. The main difference between the boards is the varying torsional stiffness and the outer dimensions of the models. This gives you a completely different feel on each shape. If you're looking for a responsive board for tricks and turns, you'll be happy with aHomesurfer well advised. The chilled, wide variant, on the other hand, would be aMoby and somewhere in between lies theOutlaw. The type of reel you put under the board has an influence on the difficulty level: The small reel is quite popular with families with children, beginners or occasional offenders, as it is easier to control.

That's why I also recommend the small roller for workouts with push-ups, burpees etc. The large roller is often bought by advanced, sports-minded customers who are looking for a bit more of a challenge for their mind and muscles. The body movement on the large roller is very similar to surfing and provides a very authentic feeling. The ball, lovinglyThe Pocketwave takes balance boarding to a whole new level. Customers who already have experience in various board sports are therefore delighted. Individualists also have the option of having a board painted and varnished themselves.

Where are the boards manufactured?

The boards are 100 per cent made in Austria. At the beginning of Shreditate, I shaped around 100 prototypes in my small garden shed using a self-made press. I now work in close co-operation with a local carpenter. Sustainability is not just a marketing measure for me, but part of my company philosophy.

How much do your Shreditate boards cost?

The boards are available from 139 euros, plus roller or ball. If you want to take a look, you can find HERE my online shop with all information.
