The Strander Foil Cup took place for the first time at Surf Club Kiel e.V. on the weekend of 17 and 18 May 2025. The event attracted windfoilers and wingfoilers from all over Germany to the Baltic coast. A total of 29 participants came together in the iQFOiL (Senior/Youth/Junior), Formula Foil and Wingfoil Racing classes in fantastic summer weather. Despite weak and shifty winds, which demanded everything from the athletes and the regatta management, the programme could be implemented for the most part.
Four races were completed in the Wingfoil class. Kim Holste was in impressive form and secured overall victory with aplomb. Frank Rosin finished in second place, followed by Lucas Matthes in third. Jette Koep was honoured as the best lady, while Paul Donner came out on top in the U19 classification. A total of five races were held in the highly competitive foil class with iQFOiL and Formula Foil riders. Lenny Friemel dominated the fleet with five race wins and thus secured the overall victory in superior fashion. He was followed by Oliver Schliemann in second place and Paul Regber in third.
In addition to the sporting competition, the Strander Foil Cup was also a meeting place for the foil community. Saturday evening in particular was all about socialising: at a large barbecue at the clubhouse, everyone talked shop, laughed and gathered strength for the second day of the regatta. With a great deal of flexibility and commitment, the best was made of the challenging conditions. The organisers' conclusion was correspondingly positive: "The 1st Strander Foil Cup was a successful start to a format that will certainly establish itself in the future," they wrote. "The combination of ambitious competition, a summery backdrop and a strong community makes us want more - we're already looking forward to the next event!"
