Last year, the wave discipline celebrated its premiere on the Cape Verde island of Sal. And in 2024, the GWA Wingfoil World Cup will return to the legendary break not far from the small town of Santa Maria. From the 16. to 26.02.2024 the riders will once again be fighting for important World Cup points. And it looks like the organisers are in luck again this time - a massive north-west swell is already on its way for the coming weekend.
Local Wesley Brito, who already triumphed in Ponta Preta in 2023 and knows the wave like the back of his hand, is the top favourite in the men's race. In the women's race, US-American Moona Whyte will be hoping to repeat her success from last year. To succeed here, however, you'll need to be able to take things in your stride, as Ponta Preta runs perfectly as a point break into a bay, but takes no prisoners when she makes mistakes. You can therefore look forward to a spectacular competition with wave rides and crashes.
After the event in Cape Verde, two more wave events will follow in 2024 - in Morocco and Brazil (HERE you can find the GWA tour calendar here). A good performance in Cape Verde is therefore essential to have a chance in the race for the World Championship crown. As soon as the action picks up, you'll find the livestream here on the website!
