For seven days, the best wingfoilers on the planet faced each other at the Waterz Festival at the Danish top spot Hvide Sande. Team France took the lion's share of the glory - eight of the twelve podium places awarded were won by theGrande Nation of wingsurfing. Despite the consistently light wind, a complete elimination in surf freestyle and more than a dozen races in free fly slalom were completed.
Nia Suardiaz, whose victories in freestyle and slalom have already established her as the new World Champion before the end of the regular World Cup season, is likely to have special memories of the event. But new faces also made an appearance again at the World Cup Hvide Sande, such as France's Kylie Belloeuvre, who secured her first podium finish in the slalom.
While the women's World Championship titles in freestyle and slalom have already been decided, the men's competition will be exciting right to the end. Thanks to his wafer-thin victory over reigning champion Titouan Galea, Italy's Francesco Cappuzzo is level on points with Galea at the top of the rankings ahead of the final event in Brazil (22 to 26 November 2023).
While the slalom riders have a longer break, the freestyle pros will be back in action from 11 to 14 October in Tarifa. Before that, the last Wave World Cup of the year will take place from 22 September to 1 October - we will of course be reporting on the event in Dakhla/Morocco for you again.
