The Winger of the Sea is expanding its programme and is now also starting in the south! The beginner-friendly slalom regatta is now taking place in Austria for the first time in order to create a corresponding wing programme there too. From 4 to 5 May, those interested can race against each other at the Winger of the Sea Austria as part of the Surf Opening on Lake Neusiedl. The windsurfing counterpart, the Racer of the Sea, will be competing in Austria for the first time this weekend
For all newcomers, the organisers are also offering an Academy on 3 May, the Friday before the regatta. The academy will include a theoretical part covering all the important aspects of regatta sailing. This will be followed by a session on material tuning. You will receive helpful tips on tuning and material selection.
Anyone who can drive straight ahead safely can take part in the Winger of the Sea. There are no other barriers to participation. In addition, all U19 youngsters are exempt from the entry fee and there is also prize money totalling 1001 euros.
The team from 1001grad Events, which is behind the Winger of the Sea and Racer of the Sea, had previously limited its events to the Baltic Sea. The main focus here was on selecting an area that was suitable for beginners. "We have often been asked by our friends and acquaintances from the south when we would finally be organising an event in their area. Now, with the organisers of the Surf Opening on Lake Neusiedl (KGP Events GmbH), we have finally found a partner that fits perfectly with our events and with whom it is possible to realise the desired framework conditions that characterise our events," say the two initiators Oliver Tom Schliemann and Leon Delle, delighted with the new cooperation.
The WOTS on Lake Neusiedl will therefore be a true original. This includes not only the same race crew, but above all aspects such as simple procedures on site, no material restrictions, no requirement for a registered sail number or club membership and free participation for young people in the U19 category. There will also be the classic BBQ on Saturday evening and the popular raffle.
The Surf Opening has already hosted the PWA World Cup and the Freestyle Pro Tour several times in the past - now the Winger of the Sea will be a real hands-on format for all wingfoil fans. In addition to the sporting highlights in wingfoiling, windsurfing and beach volleyball, the Surf Opening will once again feature a colourful supporting programme with a family beach, catering and evening parties with live DJs: "We have always been very close to surfing and Lake Neusiedl is home to numerous water sports enthusiasts. Having hosted many professional competitions in the past, we are now delighted to be able to offer a programme with the Winger of the Sea that appeals to an extremely broad target group and especially competition beginners," reports Mike Piechura from KGP Events.
