Whether wingsurfing, kite foiling or windsurf foiling - contact with a sharp wing can be quite painful. No wonder that protectors are standard equipment for many foilers.
Forward WIP combines a wetsuit with appropriate protectors in the "Steamer MK2" model. For example, solid pads have been sewn into the shin area to prevent you from injuring yourself on the foil when pedalling in the water. The knee areas are also particularly thick and comfortably padded and there are also solid additional pads on the sides of the thighs - although these can also be easily removed if required.

Despite the pads, the wearing comfort of the Steamer MK2 is at a high level, the only time you notice the integrated pads is of course when putting it on and taking it off. The materials used in the Forward WIP Neos are of a consistently high quality, the material feels stretchy and supple, and there is also a soft plush lining in the torso area. Thanks to the taped and well-covered seams, water only penetrates in homeopathic doses.
The Steamer is currently only available in a 5/4 thickness, which we found absolutely suitable when testing it on the Baltic Sea in autumn with temperatures between ten and 15 degrees. The Steamer MK 2 is available in sizes S/M/L and XL and, at 349.99 euros, is not overly expensive considering its good features.
Conclusion:
Even with integrated pads, you are not invulnerable, but the Forward WIP Steamer MK2 protects some vulnerable areas such as shins, knees and thighs particularly well. Apart from that, the warm and flexible neo leaves nothing else to be desired.
