The fascination sometimes lies in the simplicity of things. Where other boom mounts have an elaborate screw mechanism, the BoomiX only has a simple rubber band. Developer Karl Ledergerber has set himself the goal of dispensing with screws and moving parts wherever possible in order to reduce the susceptibility of the products to faults. The BoomiX therefore "only" consists of a single CNC-milled aluminium part, which is wound tightly around the boom or handle of the wing using a rubber band and then fixed in a type of clamp.
As simple as this method is, it is also functional - the mount sits bombproof on the boom and can even be mounted on soft handles - hard plastic mounts usually fail here. If the rubber band wears out after a while, it can be replaced easily and cheaply. However, the consistent absence of moving parts also means that the viewing angle is limited. The angle from top to bottom can of course be varied, but sideways panning is not possible - with the BoomiX, the cam films either straight forwards or backwards. The BoomiX Action Cam Mount costs 59 dollars. The developer is currently also working on simple adapters that will allow the BoomiX to be securely anchored to the mast of a foil or to any metallic surface using a magnet - we will keep you up to date.
Carv Star BoomiX - the conclusion:
The Carv Star BoomiX mount is a secure and, above all, simple way of attaching action cams to booms or handles. However, if you don't own a cam with an appropriate wide-angle lens, you could end up disappointed, as the lack of lateral panning is difficult to overlook.
