The magnetic Fidlock Pinclip Action Cam Mount enables action cams to be clicked on quickly. We have tried it out.

Action cams can offer exciting photo or video perspectives. However, anyone who uses cameras for water sports knows the problem: until everything is ready to go and the perspective is right, the position of the cam on the sail or wing has to be painstakingly worked out. If you take a break during the session and don't want to leave the camera on the equipment, you have to start the process all over again afterwards.

Manufacturer Fidlock specialises in magnetic fasteners for all situations and applications and now has the Pinclip Action Cam Mount in its range. This is a kind of connecting link that is simply screwed in between the cam and the actual mast, boom or wing mount. This means that the part can be used in conjunction with all standard action cams and mounts. Because the Fidlock Mount consists of two magnetically connected parts, the camera can be removed and clicked back on in a matter of seconds. So if you take a break, you can take the camera with you and click it back into the same position afterwards with the same perspective. If several people have mounted a bracket (with Fidlock Pinclip Mount) on the equipment, a cam can be swapped within a few seconds. By the way: you don't have to worry about losing your cam with the Fidlock Pinclip - the fastener is also mechanically locked in addition to the magnetic fastener. It can still be operated with one hand, and the system appears functional and sophisticated in this respect.

Just bear in mind that inserting the Fidlock Pinclip Action Cam Mount makes the entire mount around four centimetres longer. This means that the cam sits further away from the actual mast, boom or wing mount, resulting in a larger lever, which can cause the set angle to change unintentionally during jerky movements or hard landings, for example. So if you have already had the problem of the camera not holding the angle permanently despite the screws being tightened to the maximum, this problem will be exacerbated with the Fidlock Mount. However, changing to screws with a larger handle diameter can help here. Alternatively, the GoPro screws can also be tightened much more firmly with a Phillips screwdriver than with manual force alone. The Fidlock Pinclip Action Cam Mount is available for 29.99 euros e.g. here to order.
