"The idea came about after I saw a documentary about hollow wooden surfboards in winter," says Ralf. The result is a self-build project that could also be interesting in terms of sustainability. Of course, it's not possible to do it entirely without glass and resin, but the balance sheet should already look much better than with a classically built board with a polystyrene core. "With the support of a friend and after many wrong turns, we first created a 3D model," says Ralf, describing the next steps.
The result of the ready-to-fly board in an elaborate frame construction (see video), namely a 100-litre board weighing 6.0 kilos, is something to be proud of. And of course the video also shows how well it flies. If you are interested in classic board construction - without a laser cutter, but with a lot of sanding work, can find detailed documentation here. Ralf's ambition is still boiling over: "The next board will be even easier," he announces.
