The Starboard Wingboard is available in two designs and has been extensively modified. In the test, we reveal whether the changes are effective.

Compared to the first version of the Starboard Wingboard ( HERE there's a test), the board model has been completely revised. This affects the shape, but also the construction methods and size gradations. The new version is available in six sizes between 70 and 160 litres.

On land:

The model with the creative nameWingboard is available in addition to the one we testedLite Tech design is also available as a one-kilo lighterBlue Carbonconstruction. However, this also costs around 750 euros more at the shop counter. With Lite Tech technology, the tested 90-litre board weighs 7.87 kilos. This is slightly heavier than average, but at 1149 euros, the Starboard Wingboard Lite Tech also costs significantly less than many competitor models. However, straps have to be purchased with this design, whereas they are included with the Blue Carbon version.

Compared to its predecessor, the new Starboard Wingboard is significantly more compact and slightly wider. The edges and deck shape have also been revised. A striking feature is the round and voluminous nose, which in combination with the strongly bevelled edges ("Bevels")The board is designed to gently send the board back up in the event of unwanted touchdowns. At the rear, the surface area has been massively reduced using large cut-outs.

The handle, which allows the board to be carried comfortably, is well designed. The foil box on this model is located relatively far back in the board. We mounted various test foils (Axis HPS; RRD Dynamic Alu) in the front third of the box. If you mount foils with a very short fuselage, where the front wing sits directly in front of the mast, you may reach the limit in terms of mounting options. You can also find information on this in the product clip on our YouTube channel. Take a look!

On the water:

When bobbing, the board is quite stable with its thick edges and voluminous bow, only the stern needs to be loaded sensitively. Due to the large cut-outs in the underwater hull, the stern sinks faster than usual if it is loaded incorrectly. However, as soon as you stand up and have some traction in the wing, the Starboard Wingboard stabilises well and is directionally stable in the water during the acceleration phase. The board is also easy to pump. If you already have a good pumping technique, you can really push the wind limit required for take-off. In the air, the board is controlled on deck and the pad provides good grip. The board is much more compact and balanced than the previous version.

The board has particular strengths for touchdowns. The bevelled edges and round nose send the board and rider gently back into the air. You benefit from this if, for example, you unintentionally hit a chop on the straight, fly too low during a manoeuvre or land higher jumps. Keyword "jumps": The higher weight of the board is definitely noticeable during jumps and especially freestyle rotations, the board is understandably not as agile and lively as lighter models. Nevertheless, 360s and other tricks are of course also possible.

Starboard Wingboard 90 Lite Tech - the conclusion:

The new wingboard from Starboard is a big step forward compared to the previous version. It impresses as a planing and very forgiving board for freeriding and all foil manoeuvres. If you are focussing more on jumps and freestyle tricks, you should invest the extra price and opt for the lighter Blue Carbon construction.
