Naish is launching a new wingfoil board, the Nimbus. The range comprises five sizes between 50 and 100 litres, each of which is tailored to different riding styles, according to the manufacturer. The two smallest models, at 60 and 70 litres, are aimed at freestyle riders, whilst the 85- and 100-litre versions are designed for freeriding and those looking to progress. The 50-litre board occupies a special place in the range and is available exclusively as a custom version featuring a high-quality PVC-carbon construction. All boards feature a full-centre and Y-strap configuration. The shapes have a wide, parallel outline with a classic wingboard design and a compact length-to-volume ratio.
Naish Nimbus with a classic wingboard outline
The Naish Nimbus’s outline is characterised by a wide, rounded nose, parallel rails and a square, high-volume tail. Naish explains that this outline allows for an even distribution of volume and creates a stable, efficient platform. The square tail block ensures easy planing, as the board generates better lift at low speeds. This results in faster acceleration and improves control when landing jumps. The parallel outline distributes the volume evenly along the length of the board and reduces the distance between the foil box and the deck. The result is a direct feel on the foil. The round, blunt nose provides more volume at the front without requiring additional thickness. This increases stability when standing up and when landing freestyle manoeuvres.
The underwater hull combines various elements to suit different riding conditions. In the nose area, the board features a convex hull with a sharp upper edge, whilst the rear 40 per cent has flat, straight bevels. According to the manufacturer, the wide, convex nose helps with changing direction on the water, whilst the bevels ensure directional stability once the board begins to glide. The deck is wide and flat with slight concavities towards the rails. This design allows for a wide, offset stance or a narrower, centred stance. The new square front rail cuts through the water in the event of accidental contact with the water, rather than pulling the board down. All boards in the series, except for the 50-litre model, are fitted with handles.
The Naish Nimbus Custom: a freestyle machine
The 50-litre model of the Naish Nimbus differs significantly from the other sizes. It is available exclusively as a custom version featuring an upgraded PVC-carbon construction. Naish states that the shape is more radical and the rocker line more aggressive, making the board a dedicated freestyle machine. Despite the different construction, the 50-litre board shares the basic outline with the rest of the range – a wide, rounded nose, parallel rails and a square, high-volume tail. Additional features distinguish the Custom version from the standard models: a small channel at the nose helps to disperse water during hard landings and reduces the time the board spends stuck to the water. A slight concave in the tail area creates an air cushion during flat landings, enabling a quick ‘repop’ from the water during combos. The square rails allow for a wide bottom with volume right up to the edges and provide stability during off-centre landings.
