With the Super Yaka model, the manufacturer Tabou has a mid-length board in its programme (HERE is an explanation of this board type) which is available in four sizes - we were able to extensively test the board in the 106 litre size.
The board comes with a pleasingly light weight straight out of the box, weighing just under six kilos. The scope of delivery includes soft and comfortable foot straps that can be attached to the board in six plug positions so that the strap position can be customised. A carrying handle has been omitted so as not to affect the early take-off, which means that longer journeys to the water can be a bit tedious. The deck is flat and has a non-slip pad so that there is enough space when launching or changing feet during manoeuvres.
A comparatively long foil box is installed in the tail, which offers a suitable option for every conceivable foil position. The underwater hull is very pointed and narrow at the tail, with hard edges to ensure a clean water release when lifting. The bow has been designed to help guide the board and rider gently back into the air when launching and unintentionally setting the board down.
Despite the narrow and tapered tail, the Super Yaka is much more stable in the water than expected - certainly because the foil massively stabilises the longitudinal axis, but also because the board is significantly wider in the deck area than in the underwater hull. With the first gust, it becomes clear that the board immediately converts the pull of the wing into propulsion and quickly reaches the necessary take-off speed, even with a less sophisticated pumping technique. This makes it very suitable for light wind conditions, even in combination with large, powerful wings. In the event of unintentional touchdowns, the bevelled edges and voluminous nose ensure that the board rises gently back into the air. Despite a length of 2.08 metres, the board doesn't feel bulky on the water due to its central stance position, but rather pleasantly agile and compact. The gentle touchdown behaviour also benefits you when riding swell waves.
The Tabu Super Yaka is a successful mid-length board with great light wind potential, ideal for freeriding and also for downwinding. It still offers sufficient stability so that even wingfoilers with an intermediate riding level can have fun on it without any problems. If you are looking for jumps and even your first freestyle rotations, you should choose a more compact board, such as the Pocket or Rocket, are a possibility.
