Mid-length boards are all the rageThey often combine early take-off and compact flight behaviour. With the Futurama Fusion V2, the North German manufacturer Norden Surfboards has now launched an update that is said to have been further developed in a number of areas.
Norden wants to have optimised the underwater hull to support easy take-offs and smooth landings. Developer Andy Wirtz explains: "The board has been given a so-called tri-plane underwater hull. This means that it has three planes in the tail area of the foil: the bevelled edge familiar from foil boards, a slightly concave area and a flat area in the middle. These shapes then taper out slowly towards the front, improving the approach speed and helping the board to release better from the water."
The rails have also been adapted, with particularly soft edges to prevent the board from producing resistance when in contact with water. The new model is available in three sizes - with volumes of 80/95 and 110 litres. Depending on the size of the board, the shapes are between 21 and 23 inches slim to enable the best possible acceleration and a seamless transition to flying even in light winds. Long foil boxes have been installed in the tail to allow suitable positioning for every foil. You also have the option of attaching foot straps to the deck - although these are not included in the scope of delivery.
The Norden Futurama Fusion V2 mid-length board is built in a "hybrid carbon sandwich construction", meaning that the top consists of biaxial carbon fabric, several layers of fibreglass and a bamboo sandwich in the standing area. The underside is said to be constructed with several layers of fibreglass and a full-surface bamboo sandwich. Nevertheless, the retail price of 1299 euros is quite attractive, and the weight of just 6.5 kilos is also said to be absolutely competitive. You will soon be able to find out how the new model performs on the water here on the website - a test board is already on its way.
