From the merger of the predecessor models Wing Craft v3 and Flow Craft is the new all-round model Glide Craft V1 which is available in five sizes.
The Glide Craft V1 is available in sizes 70/80/90/105 and 120; we were able to test ride the medium size with 90 litres extensively. With a length of 5'6'' (168 centimetres), the board is quite stretched for this size, positioning itself between the very compact Wing Craft V3 and the Midlength model Flow Craft. A sharp trailing edge has been added to the tail of the board to minimise drag when starting off. The shape is more rounded in the bow area, where a rounded V is intended to guarantee a smooth entry into cable waves. Overall, the nose is kept rather narrow and the outline in this area is reminiscent of its sister model, the Flow Craft.
A thin but non-slip pad is glued to the deck, and plugs naturally allow foot straps to be fitted - although these are not included in the scope of delivery. Because the Slingshot Glide Craft has an above-average length foil box, a suitable position can be found for all common foils. At a measured 5.52 kilos, the new model is also appealingly light.
With its rather rounded underwater hull and narrow bow, the board is not quite as stable in the water as other boards in the 90-litre class. This characteristic is not critical, only those who are still in their infancy and are unsure of the right size should tend towards a larger board if in doubt. However, the board stabilises significantly even at slow displacement speed, and due to its length, acceleration to take-off speed is seamless and requires no major input from the pilot. Anyone can benefit from the smooth transition to flying, but this is particularly helpful if you do not yet have a sophisticated pumping technique. The easy-going characteristics also continue seamlessly when freeriding: the Slingshot Glide Craft V1 hangs lightly and well-balanced on the foot, the board forgives unintentional touchdowns generously, as the shape of the underwater hull and edges gently catches the board and sends it back into the air. The board also leaves nothing to be desired in manoeuvres, as the flat deck offers enough space for foot changes.
Even under the feet of experienced pilots, the board shows no weakness. Thanks to its low weight, it is extremely agile when riding waves - provided the foil is easy to turn - and reacts forgivingly when you touch the surface of the water in tight radii. Jumps and rotations are also easy with this lightweight board.
If you're 100 per cent into freestyle rotations, you'll probably prefer a slightly shorter model; complete beginners looking for maximum stability when starting off should, in case of doubt, choose a board one size bigger. For everyone else, however, the Glide Craft V1 offers a great overall package with harmonious take-off and forgiving riding behaviour. The target group and area of use absolutely fulfil the all-round requirements and therefore range from freeride, downwind and wave to basic freestyle.
