Parawings are another facet of the foiling world. They are primarily intended as a launch aid for downwinders and can be packed away in a matter of seconds once you have positioned yourself on the swell. Duotone was one of the first brands to launch the Stash model some time ago, and now a second version of the Parawing is coming onto the market, which is said to have been improved in numerous ways.
"Our design team has segmented the leading edge more strongly and thus achieved a new level of stability"The designers are quoted as saying. According to this, they have tried to better harmonise the angle of attack and profile depth, which results in improved flight stability, more efficiency and better upwind performance.
"The first version was still quite unstable, especially in strong gusts. The Stash 2.0 sits calmly in the wind window and pulls up with a lot of control on a closehauled course. The depower characteristics are in a different league, which of course significantly increases the range of use"explains Klaas Voget from Duotone. The Duotone Stash still uses a very light 30-gram ripstop canopy, which should fly even in very light winds and is ideal for packing. Duotone also wants to have worked on the issue of "line tangles" - the lines have a special coating that should significantly minimise the problem of tangling. The lines are also easier to distinguish thanks to a special colour code.
The Stash Parawing is now available in three colours and six sizes (2.2/2.8/3.4/4.0/4.8/5.6). Prices range between 919 and 1019 euros. Information is also available on the manufacturer's website.
