Starboard launches its first model with the Viva his new Wing-Range onto the market. Development took several months, during which team rider Benoit Carpentier and other test riders tested the material under various conditions. The VIVA is positioned as a versatile all-round wing for freeride, wave, freestyle and downwind. "I've had so much fun with the Viva over the last few months, riding it everywhere, in all conditions, and I'm really happy that other riders can now have fun with it too," explains co-developer Benoit Carpentier. The Starboard Viva is aimed at beginners and experienced riders alike who are looking for a wing for different conditions and areas of use.
The "Gradient Load Construction" combines three different materials in the fabric: Aeroflex 55 at the front, Code-Tec 85 in the centre and Ultra-X at the rear edge. This material distribution is intended to reduce weight and improve power transmission at the same time. The leading edge is straight in the centre, while the wingtips are fuller. This geometry is designed to deliver efficient lift and acceleration. The outline is rounder and the trailing edge is straighter, both of which are intended to provide a good compromise between stability and manoeuvrability. The wingtips are curved upwards, which should improve neutrality when levelling out. The profile is low and should generate low-end power with simultaneous control over a wide wind range.
The VIVA offers flutter-free performance thanks to optimised material tension. Viewing windows enable orientation on the water. The Leading Edge in cool grey is designed to prevent heat build-up. The range of sizes from 2.5 to 7 square metres covers different wind strengths and rider weights.
The VIVA Wing is now available from Starboard dealers worldwide. The size range includes 2.5, 3.5, 4.5, 5, 6 and 7 square metres, while the 7 is also available in a particularly lightweight version. All sizes come with two push-turn valves. The Wing is compatible with the new Pistol Grip Boom, which is available in carbon and aluminium. The scope of delivery includes a waist leash and a ventilated wing bag made from recycled material.
