With the new Air Team V5, FreeWing has a new all-round performance wing in its programme. Developed in collaboration with the Dream Team, the model is aimed at riders who want to push their limits in various disciplines such as wave, freestyle and downwind, according to the manufacturer. The new wing is based on an airframe made from Ho'okipa Ultra PE material, which is designed to provide exceptional rigidity while minimising weight. According to the manufacturer, this material is over 25 % stronger than any other Ultra PE or Dyneema material currently available. The high-density weave structure, known internally as "supercharged weave", reduces stretch by 50 % compared to Dacron. This leads to more directness and control when riding. The Ultra-X Canopy completes the high-quality material combination. It is characterised by increased resilience, improved aerodynamics and a longer service life. With a weight of 86 gsm, it is four times more durable than woven fabrics and reacts extremely well to the rider's impulses. The low stretchability also prevents the wing from stretching over the season.
Optimised design for maximum performance
The design of the FreeWing Air Team V5 has been revised, with additional viewing windows and further reduced flutter. The 12.5-degree angle of the leading edge creates more power and stability when flying out. The combination of a medium aspect wing ratio and a short strut ensures balance and makes the wing more manoeuvrable, which makes tacks and jibes easier, the manufacturer promises. The tapered strut with an extremely stable connection to the airframe enables more efficient pumping, faster acceleration and higher top speeds. Long battens reduce flutter to a minimum and create a controlled, comfortable ride - regardless of the wind strength. Special versions in 7m² and 8m² with two additional struts for more stability are also available for light wind conditions.
The FreeWing Air Team V5 comes with a prepreg carbon boom called Pistol Grip. Weighing just 345 grams, it offers an optimum balance of performance, control and comfort. The ergonomic grip sits perfectly in the hand and guarantees direct power transmission. A practical advantage: the boom does not need to be removed for packing and transport. Another new feature is the revised flagging handle, which, according to FreeWing, is light, stiff and designed for ultimate control when flagging. The windows are placed in the ideal position to maximise visibility. They are made of durable PU material and are suitable for all weather conditions. The package is rounded off by a new hip leash, which ensures maximum safety and freedom.
