Vayu VVing: Testing the new version of the boom wing
The Vayu VVing differs from other wings primarily due to its clever boom system. We tested version 2 and discovered a few changes.

On land:

The Vayu VVing 5.4 tested by us can be compared to the predecessor model ( HERE you can find the test) with a few changes: Version 2 now has a window, which is an absolute safety plus, especially in full spots. In addition to the 3.4/4.4/5.4 and 6.4 sizes, a 7.4 has also been available since the 2022 season for absolute light wind days or heavy riders - all sizes are available in three colour codes. According to the manufacturer"the Vayu VVing has been modified in terms of material mix and tread pattern and the weight has been reduced slightly." This intended weight advantage has obviously been cancelled out by the new window (window material is generally heavier than canopy), because the VVing 5.4 now weighs 3.36 kilos - a relatively high value. The Vayu VVing is available from Online surf shop available .

The clever boom system has been retained - a split boom ensures that the centre strut can simply be folded in the middle - in this way a very small pack size is achieved without having to fit loose parts. The Wing is inflated to 7 psi. Due to the tight basic structure, we recommend that light riders under 75kg in particular reduce the inflation pressure by around 0.5 psi - this allows the Wing to be inflated even better and more efficiently, especially in light winds. If you want, you can replace the aluminium boom with a carbon boom - according to the manufacturer, this saves around 150 grams of weight, which you pay for at the checkout with an extra 150 euros.

The other equipment details, such as the seam covers and the leash, leave nothing to be desired.

We also present the Vayu VVing in a short clip on our YouTube channel before. Take a look and subscribe to our channel.

On the water:

Version 2 of the Vayu VVing also has a fairly stretched shape with a comparatively large wingspan. When pumped, the wing already feels quite firm and shows no tendency to warp or feel spongy, even in the hands of heavy surfers (>90kg). Overall, the Wing is clearly one of the powerful representatives - it is easy to pump and really loads up after take-off, allowing you to accelerate quickly to a high speed level. Even in gusts or wind holes, the Vayu VVing is wonderfully balanced in the hand, the pressure point remains stable and this wing also makes life easy for less experienced wing surfers because it is so stable in the air. The grip position on the boom can be varied with millimetre precision, so you always have an even pull on both hands. It is also virtually impossible to miss your grip during a manoeuvre.

Keyword "manoeuvring": There is no denying that the new Vayu VVing is not one of the lightweights on the market, but it can be steered very precisely. If you let it drift neutrally behind you in the wave, it levells out nicely, but as soon as you ride surf or swell waves to leeward, the trailing edge of the wing tends to("Trailing Edge") The higher weight of the boom means that it tends to sink earlier.

Vayu VVing - the test conclusion:

The Vayu VVing has undergone some changes, but has retained its familiar character: It is one of the most powerful wings and is very easy to ride - making it perfect for light wind and sporty freeriding. The slightly higher weight can be easily hidden during typical foil manoeuvres such as jibes, tacks and foil 360s. For ambitious freestyle tricks, rotations and in the waves, however, you would want the Wing to be a little more playful.
