The Wind Wing model is available in five sizes from three to seven square metres. The small sizes with three and four square metres are said to have been optimised for control with a flatter profile. According to the manufacturer, the sizes with five to seven square metres have been optimised with a thicker front tube and corresponding profiling for better performance in light winds. At 989 euros, the RRD Wind Wing is in the upper price segment - which naturally raises certain expectations of the equipment. However, this is completely fulfilled: Solid patches protect the wingtips and the seams on the robust and stiff-looking front tube. The window is large - as always: When rolling up, do not fold over the window, but under it! The five handles are sufficiently firmly padded and are neither conspicuously wide nor particularly narrow - overall, they offer a good mix of direct wing contact and enough space for precise manoeuvres. The Mittelstrut is connected to the front tube via two connecting hoses and has an additional valve - so the Wind Wing can be vented very quickly.

The fact that the front tube of the RRD Wind Wing is quite thick in the centre area has a positive effect when pumping, as the wing feels pleasantly direct and stiff in the hand, even when heavy surfers (>85 kilos) pull on the handles. When ridden passively without pumping, it does not quite play in the league of extreme powerhouses such as Vayu VVing or SIC Raptor but still pulls away convincingly - with the right pumping technique you can push the wind limit considerably anyway. In a straight line, the wing is wonderfully balanced in the hands, the position of the handles fits well in our opinion, which is reflected in an even pull distribution on both arms. At a measured 2.76 kilos, the Wind Wing is not an absolute featherweight and is therefore not quite as playful as, for example, a Slingshot Slingwing or Naish Wing-Surfer . However, a major strength of the Wind Wing is that it does not become spongy or uncontrollable even in strong gusts; it proves to be structurally rigid, tightly tuned and extremely stable in all wind ranges. With a wingspan of 3.15 metres, the wing is one of the more compact wings in comparison - an advantage when rotating, whether in manoeuvres or jumps. Because the RRD Wind Wing also drifts very neutrally on the wave and completely without any disturbing life of its own, the wing can indeed fulfil the goal of a good all-rounder.
Apart from the slightly higher weight, the RRD Wind Wing doesn't show any weakness and convinces as a well-equipped all-rounder with a great mix of power, control and compact dimensions for beginners as well as ambitious trick riders and wave riders.
