The most important changes are a modified geometry of the front tube and a thicker and shorter strut in the front area. These are intended to make the wing stiffer and ensure that it does not warp when pumped up. The FreeWing is available in sizes from two to eight square metres, with prices ranging from 759 to 1049 euros, depending on the size. Our test size of 5.0 square metres weighed in at 2.76 kilos. The window has also been modified. Although it is quite narrow, its elongated shape allows a good view of the water surface and does not restrict the pack size. The 6-8 square metre sizes are also equipped with rear windows. The rest of the equipment is also of above-average quality: Tear-resistant Kevlar threads in the stress zones and solidly reinforced wingtips give reason to hope for a long service life. An additional valve on the strut is used to quickly deflate the wing. The handles are quite narrow overall, so anyone with large hands or who surfs with gloves in the cold season will have to grip them very precisely during manoeuvres.

Similar to the Naish Wing-Surfer the Airush FreeWing is also very compact and conveys light, agile handling right from the start. Even the FreeWing V2 is not one of the absolute steam hammers if you just passively hang on to the wing and wait until you finally take off. But if you're not too shy to take a few pumping strokes, you'll quickly be rewarded with plenty of power, even when air-riding. When pumping, we liked the fact that the Airush FreeWing V2 feels extremely firm and never tends to feel too soft or even baggy, even in the hands of heavier riders (>90 kilos). Compared to its predecessor, the V1, control has improved noticeably - this is partly due to the improved positioning of the handles, which now allow an even distribution of pull on both arms, but also to the firm ride feel. Thanks to the windows, you can easily check the free space before initiating the jibe, which is a big safety plus, especially for beginners. Apart from the fact that the narrow handles offer little room for mistakes, the manoeuvre handling is convincing across the board. Thanks to the compact wingspan, the Airush rotates very nimbly, is always light in the hand and, if necessary, drifts neutrally and without much life of its own.
The Airush FreeWing V2 impresses with a wide range of use and offers both beginners and cracks a successful mix of decent performance, good control and above-average handling in manoeuvres and jumps. Compared to its predecessor, the FreeWing V2 is a noticeable step forward.
