Supplementary to the EOS 2 model Vayu has already launched the fourth version of the Aura, which is available in sizes from 2.0 to 6.0 square metres and in two colour variants.
With the Aura 4 model, manufacturer Vayu is launching an update of its new all-round wing in nine sizes. Inspired by Premium model Aura X3 the Aura 4 is now also equipped with a slightly thinner front tube, which should benefit top speed and handling. To prevent the front tube from becoming too soft, Vayu has equipped it with stiff Aluula material in the centre area. The nine available sizes (2.0/2.5/3.0/3.5/4.0/4.5/5.0/5.5/6.0 square metres) are all supplied with a thin carbon boom. If you want to reduce the pack size, you should consider the in-house Click-Boom system (189 euros), for the sizes from 3.5 to 5.5 square metres you can manage with one boom length. The windows are soft and less susceptible to creasing, but only offer a very moderate view. The reinforcements on the front tube, on the other hand, are well done, with all seams covered with solid Kevlar patches. The front handle also leaves nothing to be desired. It is suitably dimensioned and stiff enough to transmit control impulses directly. The wing is ventilated via a SUP valve; as a one-pump system has been installed, there is no need to change plugs when ventilating. An additional outlet valve has been installed on the strut for venting. A suitable leash is also supplied with this wing.
As soon as you take off, you notice how lightly the Aura 4 floats. Even in light winds, it offers enough lift to stand up and start relaxed. The wing is very stiff, if you ride it in the lower wind range, you can inflate it with a little less pressure (-1 Psi), which gives you a more elastic and also more efficient pumping feeling. Even if there are still individual models on the market with a little more light wind power, the new Aura 4 offers an excellent mix of good light wind performance and the best control in strong gusts, which means an above-average wind range overall. The thin boom allows you to grip the wing in a straight line with very little effort, correction impulses are hardly necessary because the wing offers great flight stability.
Before initiating manoeuvres, you should check the free space to leeward, as the windows only provide a very limited view to leeward. The manoeuvre handling is excellent in any case - the Wing rotates as light as a feather and can be guided excellently and precisely - both on the front handle and via the carbon boom. The wing was also absolutely convincing in downwinding, as the trailing edge stays in the air for a pleasingly long time when riding downwind. The slight pendulum motion that the wing sometimes has on land is also not noticeable on the water.
The Aura 4 seamlessly continues the tradition of the successful Vayu all-rounder. Plenty of power, excellent handling and a very large wind range are the key features for a wide range of uses, from freeride to wave and downwind. The Wing is also suitable for freestyling, and those who focus 100 per cent on this should be happy with the slightly more compact sister model EOS 2 but with even more potential.
