The new Poison Wing complements the Cross model in the freestyle and wave direction and is available in sizes from 2.2 to 6.2 square metres and in two colour variants!
The Poison is supplied with fixed grips, but the Wing can also be ridden with a continuous boom (99 euros). All sizes from 2.7 to 6.2 are compatible with the same boom. Compared to the Cross model, which is more optimised for freeride use, the Poison has a slightly more elongated design and weighs around 200 grams less. The aspect ratio is 2.2 for all sizes of the Poison and the profile has a moderate cloth tension in the front area, while the material is cut a little looser towards the rear edge. The seams on the leading edge are additionally protected against abrasion by small Kevlar patches. The design of the front handle is not ideal; it is a little soft, which means that the wing cannot be guided perfectly when drifting on the wave. The small window offers a comparatively narrow corridor to leeward. If you want to be sure, you should lift the wing once before the manoeuvre to check the free space to leeward. The wing is ventilated via two insulated SUP valves, so it is necessary to reconnect the plugs once. However, the air can be quickly released again when deflating.
Although the Poison is designed for freestyle use, it is by no means fidgety when starting off, but has good flight stability. The profile is quite flexible when you first pump it up, but in any case very efficient, allowing the rider's horsepower to be immediately converted into propulsion. In direct comparison with the Cross Wing, about which you will soon be able to read a test, the Poison reveals just a touch less light wind power, but is also at a high level in this respect. Immediately after take-off, the Wing is very light and agile in the hand. The pressure point stability is impeccable, only in strong gusts can the rather loose trailing edge make itself felt with a slight flutter. The Poison Wing also shows its strengths in manoeuvres, as it is absolutely playful to handle. The trailing edge stays up for a long time when manoeuvring downwind and the wing is wonderfully easy to steer tip-to-tip to the other side when tacking. The model also masters freestyle rotations with flying colours - even if there are models on the market that rotate a little more playfully thanks to their smaller wingspan. However, the wing benefits from the slightly larger wingspan when riding swell or surf waves. The Poison lies extremely calmly and neutrally in the wind current, does not produce any disruptive life of its own and thus establishes itself as one of the best wave wings currently on the market.
With the Poison, GA has developed a wing that is absolutely suitable for all-round riding and whose range of use extends far beyond freestyle and waves. If you are looking for a balanced wing for a wide range of uses - waves, tricks or relaxed freeride laps - this is the right choice. In comparison, the Cross model offers - at a high level - a little more light wind power and ground pull on the back hand, while the Poison is more neutral and lighter, especially in waves.
