The manufacturer Duotone offers several versions of the all-rounder Unit: The high-priced E/LAB version is made of high-strength Aluula material, while the standard version is less than half the price. In between, Duotone has positioned the Unit SLS, which has a centre segment made of Aluula to reinforce the construction in this area. The Unit SLS is available in ten sizes from 2.0 to 6.5 square metres and is also available in a Concept Blue version, which uses more sustainable production methods - including no dyeing.
The unit is vented via the in-house valve system (Duotone pump required), and thanks to the one-pump connection, there is no need to change plugs when inflating. Additional exhaust valves on the strut and front tube are available for venting. The profile is relatively flat at the front, the cloth tension is flawless but moderate to give the wing the necessary flexibility when inflating. Compared to the previous model, the manufacturer claims to have slightly reduced the diameter of the front tube. Small mini battens have been incorporated at the rear edge to prevent the wing from fluttering in this area. The Unit SLS has windows that allow a moderate view to leeward. The front handle is well dimensioned and beautifully stiff, and is also backed with a neoprene cover. The reinforcements on the seams of the front tube are also beyond reproach. The scope of delivery includes a matching leash, the grip system has to be purchased from Duotone (+99 euros) - here you have the choice between fixed grips or a continuous boom, with which we also tested the wing. The thin boom is nice and stiff, slightly ovalised and therefore ideal to grip. The boom length "L" is suitable for all sizes from 3.5 to 6.5 square metres.
With the first breath of wind, the new Duotone Unit SLS develops enough lift to float above your head, and the Wing takes pumping turns extremely well. Active riders can elicit very good light wind performance from the wing, which is also due to the fact that the profile is not too stiff, but is noticeably charged and works efficiently. Fortunately, the Duotone Unit SLS is also absolutely convincing at the other end of the wind scale, in strong gusts, because the centre of effort remains reliably between the hands and the front tube, with its stiff Aluula segment in the middle area, stabilises the profile perfectly. The flight stability is good and enables relaxed freeriding as well as speed runs on fast foils without having to constantly correct the flight position. Nevertheless, the wing always conveys the necessary agility that you would expect from an all-rounder - the Unit SLS can be effortlessly guided into all kinds of manoeuvres without much effort. The trailing edge also stays up for a long time during downwind foil moves, which is a particular advantage when riding waves or downwinders. Speaking of downwinders: on the previous model (Here is a test) we criticised the fact that the wing began to oscillate slightly when it was only guided by the front tube - this point of criticism has obviously been rectified in the new model. The Unit 2025/2026 floats much more neutrally and smoothly when riding. Rotations and freestyle tricks are also flawless with the Unit SLS, the wing provides plenty of lift and good speed potential for the take-off - even experienced trick riders should not feel any restrictions here.
The Duotone Unit SLS impresses as a powerful, controllable and very handy wing for freeriding and foil manoeuvres of all kinds. Because the neutrality when drifting has been noticeably improved, the wing now fulfils its all-round claim even better and also leaves nothing to be desired for freestyle and wave riding.
