With the Neutron, Naish now has a special wing for wave and light wind in its programme. But how wide is the range of use? Our test will tell you.

In addition to the All-round model ADX and the Light Wind Wing Atom Naish has a third iron in the fire with the Neutron, which is available in six sizes. It is primarily intended for wave riding. We'll tell you here whether the range of use goes beyond this, or whether the Neutron is more of a niche product.

On land

The new model is available in six sizes with 1.6/2.0/3.0/4.0/5.0 and 6.0 m² and in two colour variants. At just under 2.2, the aspect ratio, i.e. the ratio of wingspan to surface area, is slightly smaller than that of the ADX, for example, so the Neutron has a less elongated outline. The profile is rather flat at the front, with a visible belly at the rear. The Neutron is a pure boom model. The thin and slightly oval boom is part of the scope of delivery and is simply inserted into the eyelets before aerating the strut - this worked in seconds and without tools during the test. Nevertheless, the handlebar sits firmly on the strut after ventilation. Keyword VentilateThe Naish Neutron does this via two separate SUP valves.

The Naish Neutron does without a window, but all other equipment details leave nothing to be desired: The seams on the wingtips are protected against abrasion with synthetic leather patches, the front handle is firm and well dimensioned and a good leash is also included.

On the water

You immediately notice that the Neutron has above-average power. The profile develops a lot of lift even in chop, which means that the wing floats early even in absolute light winds. The rather damped profile loads up excellently with the first gust and immediately offers recognisable pull, especially on the back hand. This is helpful for immediately converting pumping into lift or propulsion, and the Neutron effortlessly establishes itself in the league of the most powerful wings in light winds. In the lower and medium wind range, the Neutron lies in the hand with a rich basic pull as long as it is flown close to the wing. If you release the rear hand to let the wing fly behind you, for example for downwinding or wave riding, the profile is absolutely neutral and does not develop any disturbing life of its own - you realise that the wing was designed precisely for this purpose. The lightweight wing also leaves nothing to be desired in manoeuvres, as it is easy to steer and steer through all manoeuvres thanks to the direct and stiff connection of the boom. The only problem is that the wing has no window, which can sometimes lead to an increased pulse at full spots - you should definitely check the free space downwind before jibing.

When the gusts get stronger, the downsides of the Neutron become a little more apparent, as the soft profile is simply not as taut and pressure point stable as is the case with wings with more profile tension. For this reason, we would recommend utilising the recommended inflation pressure of the wing in stronger winds and not falling significantly below it. This also applies to freestyle use: in general, the Neutron can also put a hot freestyle sole on the parquet, but if you focus on this, you will probably miss some control and profile tension.

Naish Neutron - the conclusion

The Neutron is a super wing for light to medium winds. Thanks to its above-average light wind power, it gives freeriders and wave foilers wings very early on. Its neutrality in the wave is at the highest level. So if you like to grab the smallest possible wing for cruising or to draw your lines on swell or surf waves - bingo! If, on the other hand, you like to strap on the GPS watch with small foils, you should rather orientate yourself towards the ADX, which simply has more control and a higher speed potential in stronger winds.
