The company from the Lake Constance region is thus responding to security requirements and wants to ensure more reliable use. The e-Fin 1.0 is not affected by the campaign. According to the manufacturer, customers who have already ordered a charger should not order another device, as this would delay the process. The exchange will take place after receipt of the old devices, which will be properly recycled. Delivery will be made in batches, which means that processing will take several weeks.
The replacement takes place in three steps. Firstly, customers order the new charger via the Product page on the Jaykay website. The order is free of charge and serves to record the current shipping address. After ordering, owners will automatically receive a return label by e-mail. They can use this label to send the old charger back to the manufacturer free of charge. As soon as the old device has been handed in to the shipping service provider DHL, Jaykay will start shipping the new charger with the integrated protective electronics. The manufacturer emphasises that the return is necessary to ensure that only the new version is in circulation. At the same time, this enables the old devices to be disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner.
The new charger differs from its predecessor in that it has additional protective electronics. These electronics automatically check the condition of the battery before each charging process. A status LED indicates the current operating status. The check is intended to ensure safe and reliable use. The manufacturer states that the new version is only compatible with the e-Fin 2.0. Owners of the e-Fin 1.0 do not need the new charger and are not affected by the promotion. The technical changes only affect the internal electronics, while the external shape and connections remain unchanged. A test by our SUP editors of the You can find Finne Jaykay 2.0 here.
Jaykay has issued a safety warning for its e-Finn 2.0. The manufacturer is asking all owners to refrain from charging the devices for the time being. The reason for this is a possible fire risk with deeply discharged lithium-ion batteries. A deep discharge is possible, especially after a long winter break.
The company emphasises that there is no danger from uncharged devices. The measure is purely a precautionary measure. Jaykay is currently working on a solution to reliably recognise deeply discharged batteries, according to the press release. Corresponding instructions are to be published within the next four weeks on the specially created status page at www.jaykay-sport.de/pages/safety will be published. Until then, the recommendation is not to charge the e-Finn. According to the manufacturer, non-charging poses no danger whatsoever.
UpdateJaykay has since announced that a new power supply unit will be introduced to resolve the problems. There will be more information on this in the coming week
Lithium-ion batteries can become deeply discharged if the e-Tiller is not used for a long period of time or has been stored with an empty battery. Charging a defective or deeply discharged battery can pose a fire risk under unfavourable circumstances.
The warning is aimed at all owners of an e-fin from the manufacturer, regardless of how often they use the device or how old it is. The company has set up a dedicated e-mail address for queries: safety@jaykay-sport.de. There, affected users can report questions about the security warning.
