With the Flow Bamboo, Duotone is launching a second version of its Malibu SUP. Whilst the Duotone Flow, which has already been presented Whilst the standard Flow is manufactured using a custom CNC composite construction, the Bamboo version, according to the manufacturer, features a composite bamboo-PVC sandwich with a CNC-precision-moulded EPS core. This construction is designed to deliver greater stiffness and more direct feedback. The board comes in three identical sizes to the standard Flow: 10'0" x 29" with a volume of 130 litres, 10'0" x 30" with a volume of 146 litres and 10'6" x 31" with a volume of 178 litres. According to Duotone, the weights range from 8.60 to 10.0 kilograms, which is 300 to 400 grams lighter than the CNC composite version in each case. All models are supplied with tri-fin sets in the Multi/US system – the two smaller sizes with 4.5" and 6.0" fins, and the 10'6" version with 4.5" and 8.0" fins. None of the variants feature a mast foot insert.
The Full Custom Bamboo construction differs fundamentally from the CNC composite construction of the Standard Flow. According to the manufacturer, the bamboo sandwich laminate produces a stiffer and more responsive ride. Duotone states that every paddle stroke and every shift in weight is transferred directly to the water without delay or loss of energy. The result is more efficient gliding on flat water and a controlled, lively riding experience when surfing. The bamboo technology keeps the weight low whilst offering the durability required for regular use in a wide variety of conditions. The precision-milled EPS core forms the basis of the construction, which is combined with the composite bamboo-PVC sandwich. According to the manufacturer, this construction method stems from Duotone’s decades of experience in windsurf and foilboard construction.
The outline matches that of the Standard Flow exactly and follows the classic Malibu longboard design. The wide, rounded nose is designed to make paddling into waves easier whilst also providing propulsion on flat water. The generous volume in the mid-section is designed to ensure stability and a predictable feel underfoot. The tail is designed to enable long, drawn-out carves and pivot turns without requiring advanced riding technique. The natural stability of the Malibu longboard outline quickly instils confidence in beginners, whilst the responsive rails and carefully tuned hull are designed to provide experienced paddlers with precise feedback for clean lines and turns on the wave. The board is designed to grow with the rider’s skill – from the first steps in surfing to refining the classic longboard style.
Duotone positions the Flow Bamboo as a board for a variety of uses: flat-water sessions at sunrise, small waves and long coastal tours. The longboard shape handles chop and open water with ease, whilst the fin setup offers precise tracking and high manoeuvrability. The manufacturer cites European lakes, river tours, Atlantic beach breaks and Mediterranean point breaks as ideal conditions. The board enables smooth, relaxed riding – covering distance, attempting a nose ride, leaning into long carves and enjoying your time on the water. Duotone describes the riding experience as being characterised by the Malibu outline, which is perfect for relaxed sessions with the waves, nose walks, long carves and the feeling of being at one with the water.
According to Duotone, the Flow Bamboo is not a board for just one season, but is designed to be a long-term, indispensable part of your quiver. The combination of classic Malibu design and modern bamboo construction is aimed at durability and timeless performance. The greater stiffness of the Bamboo version compared to the standard Flow is aimed at paddlers who prefer more direct feedback and a more responsive ride. The lighter weight makes it easier to transport and handle on the beach. The unfinished appearance of the bamboo construction gives the board a natural look. The market launch is scheduled for June 2026.
