Duotone is expanding its the SUP programme launched recently The Flow, a hardboard with a Malibu longboard outline. The board is initially available in a custom CNC composite construction and in three sizes: 10'0" x 29" with a volume of 130 litres, 10'0" x 30" with 146 litres and 10'6" x 31" with 178 litres. Weights range from 8.90 to 10.4 kilograms. All models come without a mast foot insert and are supplied with tri-fin sets – the two smaller sizes with 4.5" and 6.0" fins, and the 10'6" version with 4.5" and 8.0" fins in the Multi/US system.
The wide, rounded nose is designed to make it easier to paddle into waves whilst also providing propulsion in flat water. According to the manufacturer, the generous volume in the mid-section is intended to ensure stability and a predictable feel underfoot. The tail is designed to enable long, drawn-out carves and pivot turns without requiring advanced riding technique, it adds. The Malibu longboard outline is designed to give beginners an immediate sense of security, whilst the rails and underwater hull geometry are intended to provide experienced paddlers with precise feedback for turns. The board is designed for a variety of uses: flat-water sessions, small waves and coastal tours. The outline is designed to glide through chop and open water, whilst the fin setup is intended to ensure directional stability and manoeuvrability. Duotone cites European lakes, river tours, Atlantic beach breaks and Mediterranean point breaks as suitable environments.
The custom CNC design is based on a precision-milled EPS core combined with a composite-wood sandwich. The construction draws on Duotone’s experience in windsurf and foilboard design and is intended to offer a combination of low weight, efficient gliding and comfort. The finish is left unfinished.
Duotone positions the Flow as a board designed to remain relevant over several seasons. The natural stability of the outline quickly gives beginners confidence, whilst the responsive rails and the finely tuned underside are designed to provide experienced paddlers with the feedback they need for clean lines and turns on the wave. The board is designed to grow with the rider’s skill – from their first steps in wave riding to refining the classic longboard style. The manufacturer describes the riding experience as one that allows for relaxed sessions with the waves, nose walks, long carves and the feeling of being at one with the water. The board is just as suitable for early morning sessions on glassy water as it is for small waves or extended coastal tours.
