Duotone is launching two SUP wave hardboards for advanced surfers. The Cosmic SLS features a full custom SLS construction with a 4+1 fin box system, whilst the Cosmic is built using custom CNC construction and features a 2+1 fin setup. Both models are available in four sizes ranging from 8'0'' to 9'2''.

Duotone is expanding its SUP range with two wave models aimed at advanced to very experienced surfers. The Cosmic SLS and the Cosmic share the same shape but differ in construction and fin configuration. Both boards feature a rounded nose for stability during take-off even at low paddling speeds, according to the manufacturer’s press release. The tapered Moon Tail keeps the boards narrow, responsive and precise when the wave demands it. The hull starts with a mono concave in the front section, designed to generate effortless speed and keep the board lively in weaker sections. In the centre, this transitions into a double concave, which maximises stability and balance. Towards the tail, a V-shape opens up, releasing the water cleanly and enabling fast pivots as well as a loose, fluid feel at the end of every turn.

Duotone Cosmic SLS: four boards in one

The Cosmic SLS stands out thanks to its 4+1 fin box system. Four multi-fin boxes plus a central US box allow for four different set-ups. The factory-fitted thruster set-up with three fins offers balanced all-round performance from waist-high waves to well above head height. The configuration promises to deliver precise, controlled and powerful performance in all conditions. The quad setup with four fins provides maximum traction and lateral grip for critical, powerful waves where control is crucial. The twin-fin setup offers a skatey, flowing feel for smaller, softer waves. Surfers can ride long lines or make sharp turns. The Twin + Trailer setup complements the two side fins with a small centre fin, which offers additional grip in transitional conditions.

Fully Customised SLS Design

The Full Custom SLS construction is based on Biax-Composite PVC sandwich technology. According to Duotone, each EPS core is individually CNC-milled rather than moulded. The result is a board that is said to be lighter and stiffer than products from conventional semi-custom production. According to the manufacturer, the laminate construction is optimised for every size. The smallest model, 8'0'' x 30'', weighs 6.80 kilograms and has a volume of 109 litres. The 8'4'' x 31'' model weighs 7.00 kilograms with a volume of 124 litres. The 8'8'' x 32'' version weighs 7.50 kilograms with a volume of 140 litres. The largest model, 9'2'' x 33'', weighs 8.3 kilograms and has a volume of 157 litres. All sizes are supplied with an AS (Multi|US) 5''+5'' thruster fin set.

Duotone Cosmic with custom CNC construction

The Cosmic utilises Custom CNC Composite Construction. According to the manufacturer, this consists of a composite wood sandwich lay-up around a lightweight, CNC precision-moulded EPS core with an untreated finish. Duotone has developed and refined this construction drawing on its heritage in windsurf and foilboard construction. The construction is designed to offer a combination of low weight, efficient glide and high comfort. The 2+1 fin system combines two multi-fin boxes with a central US box to form a classic thruster setup. According to Duotone, this configuration delivers the right balance of control, drive and manoeuvrability from waist-high waves right up to solid overhead surf. The Cosmic 8'0'' x 30'' weighs 7.30 kilograms, whilst the 8'4'' x 31'' version weighs 7.80 kilograms. The 8'8'' x 32'' version weighs 8.60 kilograms, whilst the 9'2'' x 33'' model weighs 9.2 kilograms.

Duotone has designed both versions of the Cosmic with advanced to very experienced SUP surfers in mind, who are looking for genuine wave performance. According to the brand, the boards are aimed at surfers whose quiver currently includes several boards for different conditions, or who have long been searching for a single board that can replace them all. All models in both ranges are supplied without a mast foot insert and are designed exclusively for use in waves.
