The Future Fly White Tiger 125 is designed primarily for light to moderate winds. It performed superbly in our test – delivering a pure freerace feel right from the moment it took off.

Future Fly, the brand founded by PWA racer Arnon Dagan, is distributed in Germany by Wind Lounge distributed. Shop operators Mario Kümpel Not only does it supply the board, but it also played a key role in the development of the White Tiger. The board, which features a PVC sandwich construction on both sides and carbon reinforcements on the rails (manufacturer’s description), is available online at a comparatively affordable price of 1,899 euros – though without a fin. That’s not a typo: Shpritz is the name of the accessory fin available in the Windlounge range, which was supplied to us with the test board. For €199, you get a high-quality carbon fin measuring 42 centimetres in length. It sits securely in the ‘foil-ready’ box.

The gliding surface starts at the front with a pronounced double concave and only a slight V-shape, extending to the front foot straps, and tapers towards the tail into a very slight, flat V-shape, featuring two cut-outs that are not particularly large but are deep. On the deck, which is slightly rounded throughout, only the area directly around the mast track is recessed – an area you rarely step on, even when launching and gliding. For the footstraps, you can choose positions for freeride, freerace and race – i.e. either comfortable, moderate or, in the final option, with your heels on the rail, just like on a race slalom board.

A particularly sporty driving experience

Don’t be fooled by the White Tiger’s composure whilst bobbing about and during the take-off phase. The board offers good stability, glides smoothly and swiftly, and still feels quite tame. But as soon as you’re in the bindings, it can spring forward with a powerful leap, like a big cat that’s been dozing in the sun; the acceleration is explosive and, even with a light tailwind, the board surges forward with a particularly sporty feel. Depending on your chosen strap position, you can apply lateral heel pressure as you would on a race slalom board, or apply it a little more moderately (straps on the inside). The standing area beneath the soles of your feet is very comfortably contoured; the straps and pads mould to your feet extremely comfortably, and particularly in the outer position, you can actively position the board on the fin, edge it slightly and ‘fly’ freely. The thin bow races over the chop without even touching the wave crests.

With its superb speed, the Tiger delivers the sportiest feel in light to moderate downwind conditions. It remains stable and easy to control for a long time. When there’s a lot of pressure on the sail, the stiff 42 fin gives the freely gliding board a touch too much lift and limits the top speed: that’s why you should switch to a shorter fin a little earlier than you would on a board that glides more smoothly. Patrik F-Race For example. Tacks require a nimble foot due to the low volume in the bow. The preferred type of jibe is an active carving jibe, which the board responds to with plenty of speed through the turn. For power jibes of all radii, comparatively little foot pressure is required, but a bit more sensitivity in the toes is needed for clean control through the jibe.

surf’s verdict on the Future Fly White Tiger 125

With the Future Fly White Tiger, you’ll experience fast, sporty freeracing. The board delivers excellent performance, particularly in light to moderate winds. A smaller fin is recommended for top-speed runs.
