"Impressive, remarkable, fascinating, fantastic, ... or simply brilliant ... there are many terms for what is currently happening in the raceboard windsurfing class," writes Lothar Knopf, the sports director of the Yacht-Club Niedersachsen, full of anticipation in the announcement of the Raceboard World Championship on the Steinhuder Meer.
The World Championships in Warnemünde in 2019 (picture above) were already a great success with 114 participants, but this year's World Championships from 12-16 June at Steinhuder Meer, organised by the traditional sailing club Yacht-Club Niedersachsen in cooperation with the German Sailing Association and the German Windsurfing Association and with the support of the neighbouring clubs in Mardorf, will also surpass this record. Just two months before the first start, 135 raceboarders from all over the world have already registered and 15 more have announced their participation.
In addition to the attractive competition area and the thrill of surfing against the best of the best, the all-round support for the participants and the great supporting programme with several parties and live music, live cooking by a top chef, a rig seminar with Monty Spindler, one of the best sailmakers in the world, and much, much more will ensure that there is a real hype surrounding the event. There will be a different highlight every day and, if the wind plays ball, there will also be an unforgettable marathon with the island of Wilhelmsstein as the course mark, where accompanying persons and spectators can follow the exciting battles for position over coffee and cake.
After the award ceremony for the individual classification of the Raceboards World Championship on Friday evening, there will be a very special highlight on Saturday. Based on the success of the German Windsurfing League, in which teams of four surfers have been competing together for over 30 years, there will now be a second Nations Cup after the successful test in Warnemünde in 2019, in which the national teams will determine the world's best team.
Of course, the many regional and national sponsors, whose commitment makes such an event possible in the first place, play a large part in its success. And the organising committee has a few more great ideas as a bonus, which will be implemented if more sponsors want to present themselves at the World Championships.
