After 22 years on the PWA Tour, Klaas Voget is calling it quits. The Aurich native made the announcement at the press conference at the Sylt World Cup.

The 43-year-old made his World Cup debut in 2oo0 and celebrated his greatest successes with a third place in 2008 and a second place in 2009 at his home World Cup on Sylt. That's why Voget has a special relationship with the island: "The Mercedes-Benz World Cup on Sylt will be my last competition on the world tour. It was always clear to me that if I ever finish my professional career, it would be at my absolute favourite event here on Sylt. I have experienced my greatest career highlights in the North Sea waves. In 2008 and 2009, I finished second and third on the podium. And that was at home in front of my family, friends and fans. I'll never forget that."

Over the course of his career, Voget was in the top ten for eight years. His best position was fourth in the world rankings in 2009. Voget also became German champion in the wave in 2007 and 2010.

On the Great Sea in East Frisia Klaas Voget made his first attempts at surfing in 1992, after the Civilian service on Norderney he then turned professional. At the same time, he studied sports science in Kiel. He now lives with his family in Mönkeberg near Kiel and works in product development for Fanatic.

"I will of course remain involved in the sport of windsurfing and will also take care of the development of wingfoiling at Duotone and Fanatic in the future. I am also very happy to follow the development of my three children. My sons Tebbe (7 years) and Jelle (5 years) are already regularly on the board and it looks like they will follow in my footsteps."
