There were three windsurfing disciplines on the long Whitsun weekend at the German Windsurf Cup on Sylt as part of the California Summer Opening. After kicking off with fin slalom and wave riding, three complete foil eliminations were finally held on the fourth day of competition in three to four force winds. This was followed by four fin slalom eliminations in freshening winds.
Former champion Vincent Langer dominated the foiling. However, things did not look good for him in the first elimination. Due to a defect, Langer had to drive ashore shortly before the final and started the final run late. Despite this, he fought his way up to seventh place. The experienced Kieler was then able to confidently win the two subsequent foiling eliminations, securing victory in this discipline with the ideal score of 0.0.
Two young talents followed in second place: Keno Recke cleverly exploited Langer's material problem in the first elimination and celebrated his first heat victory in foiling at a DWC event. With a third and fourth place in the other heats, he secured second place overall with 3.0 points. Anton Richter completed the podium with 4.0 points as the only driver with consistent top 3 finishes.
The wind continued to freshen up during the course of the day, so that four fin slalom eliminations could be held. Anton Richter was in top form here and won three of the four runs. He was only beaten by Vincent Langer in one elimination. After a total of eight eliminations, Richter topped the rankings with a perfect score of 0.0. Vincent Langer followed in second place with 4.0 points, while fin slalom specialist Justus Schott secured third place on the podium with 3.0 points.
Anton Richter thus also secured overall victory on Sylt. The youngster presented himself as the most versatile rider of the event and secured the overall victory with an ideal score of 2.0 with victories in the wave and fin slalom and a third place in foiling. "I'm incredibly happy that I was able to prove my skills in all three disciplines!" said an overjoyed Richter. "The conditions were very challenging at times, but it was great fun and I gave my best every second on the water." Vincent Langer took second place overall, just one point behind with 3.0 points. He scored points with victory in foiling and second place on the fin. The podium was completed by young talent Keno Recke with 9.0 points, who particularly impressed with second place in foiling.
