Citroën Windsurf World Cup Sylt 2026: A sunny Saturday on Sylt – foilers on standby

There was a glimmer of hope that morning, at the first skippers’ meeting of the 2026 World Cup. The race organisers had called the racers together half an hour early because there was at least a light breeze blowing that morning. The course had already been set out, and the first riders were out on the water, but wind holes kept slowing the foilers down. After several delays to the start, the wind then died down completely, and in the early afternoon the PWA announced that the day’s racing was over.

However, nobody was concerned about this on the first of nine possible competition days, as the forecast looks promising, at least for the foil racers. As early as tomorrow, the prospects look very good, with winds of nearly 20 knots and significantly stronger gusts in the Forceast. With an offshore easterly wind, the first slalom races should definitely be possible. But freestyle is also on the cards – in which case it’ll probably take place far out at sea with judging via drone. This was tried out last year on Sylt and worked a treat.

So the opening Saturday was the perfect opportunity to explore the exhibitors along the promenade. Whether it was the latest models from main sponsor Citroën, the official World Cup collection from Chiemsee or the food and drink marquee – there was plenty going on everywhere. At the joint surf and BLACKROLL tent, too, the air loungers with compression boots and the vibration lounger were almost constantly occupied by visitors keen to try out the products. A number of riders, such as Hugo Sjöberg and Fabian Wolf, as well as windsurfing legend Björn Dunkerbeck, were keen to check out the BLACKROLL range.
