Danish Open: Nebelung, Behrens, Danielsen and Bjørnå win ahead of Hanstholm

With 47 registered starters from five countries, the field for the Danish Open in Cold Hawaii was well filled. The contest, which is known for its great atmosphere, is part of the Danish championship, and the freestyle part is also part of the EFTP tour this year. In wave riding, the juniors can also collect points for the IWT/PWA ranking list. As usual, the best spot around Klitmøller and Hanstholm will be chosen depending on the conditions.

It all started in Klitmøller in front of the NASA clubhouse. On Sunday afternoon, the freestyle juniors took to the water in slowly building winds. With sideshore winds and small waves, Local Tobias Bjørnå came out on top against Anton Richter, with Lars Bubelach in third place. It wasn't until shortly before ten in the evening that the B group was also through, with Yuri Mamero winning ahead of Michael Falkenberg and Allan Hagner.

4.5 and three metre wave in Hanstholm

On Monday, the Danish Open moved to Hansthom, where the A freestylers took to the water first. After many close heats in good wind and small waves, Niclas Nebelung came out on top, ahead of Mathias Genkel and Rasmus Øgelund.

During the afternoon, the wind and waves picked up more and more, perfect conditions for wave riding. It started with the women's competition, where there were plenty of good forwards and long wave rides. Maria Behrens won ahead of Caro Weber, followed by Stine Marie Bøtteren. Then it was the juniors' turn, and the result at the end of the wave riding was identical to the freestyle result the day before: Tobias Bjørnå ahead of Anton Richter and Lars Bubelach.

The wind and waves had picked up even more for the start of the men's field, most of the 30 starters were on the water with 4.5s and faced waves up to three metres high. All the competitors put on a great show with high jumps and spectacular wave rides. Local Kenneth Danielsen took the win in the end ahead of Mads Bjørnå. His brother Tobias - previously winner of the junior waveriding and freestyle competitions - came third. Behind him, after more than 12 hours on the beach, was once again Anton Richter.

The summer edition of the Danish Open (10 - 11 June) and the autumn edition (14 - 22 October) are still on the agenda for the next few weeks.
