Highlights: Closing ceremony at the World Cup Sylt - award ceremony and presentation of World Cup trophies

Even less wind than yesterday, plus the usual shorebreak - it didn't take long for the race committee to decide not to start any more competitions on the last day of the Mercedes-Benz Windsurf World Cup Sylt. With ten slalom eliminations, a complete double elimination in freestyle and a single elimination in wave riding, the week was still extremely successful.

In the afternoon, the big award ceremony took place on the event stage. The World Cup trophies were presented in the men's and women's wave riding events, while "only" the trophies for the Sylt World Cup were awarded in the slalom. The winner was Amado Vrieswijk, who switched his focus from freestyle to racing and won the first event of the season. Second-placed Maciek Rutkowski was somewhat disappointed - at least on Instagram. He led the rankings for a long time, only slipping to second place with the last elimination.

Philip Köster is runner-up world champion

Philip Köster, on the other hand, was extremely pleased with his victory on Sylt, where he also finished runner-up in the World Championship. "It's a great feeling to have won my home World Cup for the second time in front of my family and the German fans. Next year I'm going to go all out again and aim to win my sixth World Cup title," promised the 28-year-old. Marcilio Browne became the new world champion, as is well known, with a third place in Westerland being enough for his second world title in wave riding. "I didn't think about anything before the competition, I just surfed. It was an indescribable feeling when I realised on the beach after reaching the semi-finals that I had made it," revealed the Brazilian.

Lina Erpenstein finished third in both the women's World Cup and on Sylt. "I'm super happy, the conditions in the first round were epic. Unfortunately, we couldn't start the second round. Then I could have been in contention for the World Championship title again," said the Kiel native. World champion Sarah-Quita Offringa was delighted with her 20th title in total: "It's something special to surf in these difficult conditions on Sylt. But it's something really special to win here," she said at the award ceremony. In freestyle yesterday Adrien Bosson World Champion ahead of Jacopo Testa and Steven van Broeckhoven.
