After winning the PWA World Champion title, Brawzinho also wins the Aloha Classic. In the final in front of Hookipa, the Brazilian won ahead of Camille Juban, Kai Lenny and Jake Schettewi. The four faced each other in the final heat after beating Morgan Noireaux, Graham Ezzy, Takara Ishii and Antoine Martin in the semi-finals.
After the Ladies' heats at the start of the event week the riders had to wait a little until Hookipa offered conditions suitable for competition. The first rounds were sailed on Tuesday and the final heats were held tonight, European time. According to the forecast, the waves and wind are expected to drop further from now on, so the regatta organisers made every effort to hold the event.
This meant hard work on the water, with head-high waves and relatively light winds, Hookipa was a long way from the ideal conditions. Maui locals like Morgan Noireaux then met up with PWA pros like Marcilio Browne, Ricardo Campello and Robby Swift, who also live on Maui. There were also some hot shots from the scene at the start with Liam Dunkerbeck, Takara Ishii, Takuma Sugi and Marino Gil Gherardi.
Bernd Roediger, known for his playful style, was eliminated in the quarter-finals. In a post on Instagram, he described the conditions at this year's Aloha Classic:
"It was definitely not an easy day for all of us out there and I was struggling to find the right waves. I tried a taka right at the start but it didn't score enough points to get me anywhere. When the wind dropped in the second half of the heat, I couldn't show what I could do in the turns," he wrote in his post. "I'm disappointed that I didn't make it further, but I rode a heat that was very 'me'. I didn't even do anything I don't enjoy. If I'm not doing what I enjoy, then I'm no good."
