After five days on the canal, Gunnar Asmussen is leading the men's race. Yesterday he was the first to break the 50-knot mark over 500 metres. At 50.97 knots, he was even well ahead of the world record holder Antoine Albeau, currently at 48.16 knots. This year, the Frenchman has set himself the goal of equalling his own record from 2015 (53.27 knots). So far, however, the necessary conditions have not been met.
