If Jenna Gibson were allowed to drive any longer in Lüderitz, she would probably reach the magical 54-knot mark (100 km/h) before Christmas. Yesterday, the Brit set a new world record for the fourth time this year. With 48,03 knots over 500 metres, she broke into the 48-metre range for the first time, and she also 50,02 knots over 2 seconds as the first woman faster than 50 knots. As always, all values still have to be ratified before they are officially recognised as world records.
"I'm very happy today, we only had a short wind window, much shorter than the last few days," she said afterwards. "I've achieved all my goals for this trip, we still have tomorrow, when there should be a bit more wind!"
The men were also back on the canal yesterday, in the usual order: Albeau (51.68 knots) ahead of Asmussen (51.19) and Lorho (49.86). So no new records at this point, but that was not to be expected given the wind forecasts. Antoine Albeau has now left Lüderitz with his new world record from Sunday in his pocket, and Jenna Gibson is also about to depart. However, around 40 knots are forecast for today - will Jenna Gibson go one better on her last day?
