47.41 knots, according to other measurements also 47.36 knots - but in any case faster than the old world record set by Heidi Ulrich (47.02 knots): Jenna Gibson is the new fastest female windsurfer in the world! Yesterday, the Brit set a new record on the speed channel in Lüderitz! "That's great!" she said afterwards. "It was a very good day, I had two runs that were faster than the previous world record! Now I'm hooked!" Until the new world record is official, it still has to be ratified by the WSSRC (World Speed Sailing Record Council).
But by then, yesterday's record could already be a thing of the past, because according to the forecasts, there will be even more wind and even better conditions in Lüderitz today. Jenna Gibson also wants more: "50 knots is the next target, that's what we're working towards!"
The 50-knot mark was already broken yesterday by front runner Antoine Albeau (51.83) and Gunnar Asmussen (51.78), who was even in the lead at one point. They are followed by Björn Dunkerbeck with 49.62 knots ahead of youngster Brendan Lorho with 48.63. If the conditions today are as advertised, Albeau's men's world record from 2015 could also be shaken. Will anyone sail faster than 53.27 knots today? Gunnar Asmussen is certainly the hottest contender alongside Albeau, he could also improve his own German record of 52.26 knots. And Björn Dunkerbeck is known to have the big goal of breaking the 100 km/h mark, which would be almost exactly 54 knots.
Especially in the late afternoon, the wind should be exactly as Björn Dunkerbeck described it: "Perfect is between 170 and 180 degrees, that's exactly south, with a slight easterly touch, then you can surf right along the edge at full throttle." The whole thing at around 45 knots - world record weather!
