Good news about the World Cup on Sylt: the biggest event on the PWA tour is taking off with a new title sponsor. From 22 September to 1 October, up to 200,000 spectators will come to the island for the "schauinsland-reisen Windsurf World Cup Sylt". "Together with our new title partner schauinsland-reisen, the fourth largest German air tour operator based in Duisburg, we are setting new standards," say the organisers. "With the highest standards of quality, this collaboration will create a unique holiday experience during the Windsurf World Cup."
This should put the event on a firm footing and allow the professionals to plan the regatta. Previously this season, several contests had to be cancelled due to funding problems or political uncertainties. At the only "Super Grand Slam" on the PWA tour, both the men and women will be competing in wave riding, freestyle and slalom on Sylt. The event is also part of the joint PWA and IWT tour. While the World Championship titles will already be awarded in freestyle on Sylt, further events will follow in slalom and wave riding.
There are also changes behind the scenes at the World Cup Sylt this year: the agency MMP Event is taking over responsibility on the agency side in a long-term collaboration with the Act Agency from Hamburg. Act has previously organised the World Cup on its own since 1990. "With MMP Event, we are very happy to welcome an agency partner for the responsibility on the organiser side that has a lot of experience, expertise and, above all, passion for sporting events." MMP is part of the Seven. One Entertainment Group and will drive medialisation and marketing through its proximity to a major media company, according to a press release. Cologne-based MMP is responsible for conception, realisation, marketing and communication.
